RESILIENT. REAL. REMARKABLE.
Our Journey
We won’t sugarcoat it: our journey has been nuts. We’ve been knocked down, targeted, blocked—and still, we rise. Now, with the support of the State of Sonora and our communities, we’ve reclaimed La Cienega.
“We thank Governor Alfonso Durazo, the Sonora State Police, and the Marina for their extraordinary courage in standing up for the rule of law and helping us return to La Cienega. This was a moment of truth—and they rose to meet it.”

A LEGACY WRITTEN IN GOLD AND SOIL
About La Cienega
La Cienega is a storied gold district in Sonora’s Sierra Madre, with gold mining roots reaching back to around 1740. First developed as a placer gold camp under Spanish colonial rule, it quickly grew into one of the most productive artisanal mining zones in northern Mexico.
By the late 1800s and early 1900s, the district supported thousands of active claims, with gold passed hand-to-hand and generation-to-generation by families deeply tied to the land.
Legend has it that more than a million ounces of gold have already been taken from La Cienega’s surface gravels over the centuries — and modern exploration suggests that this is only part of the story.
Geological studies point to the possibility of multi-million ounce potential still in place, both in the placers and in the hardrock sources that fed them.
Today, Veruna is proud to carry the torch of La Cienega’s legacy — combining modern recovery technology, local knowledge, and a commitment to environmental stewardship to write the next chapter in this legendary goldfield.
“La Cienega is more than a mine — it’s a legacy written in gold and soil. We’re here to honor it and build what comes next.”
